Our Bison are Pasture Raised, 100% grass-fed, and we use no growth hormones nor antibiotics. All our meat is USDA-inspected and certified SC Organic. It is also a permitted Animal Welfare Approved facility, meeting the highest standards of humane handling. 2019
Founding & Land Purchase
At Big Balls Ranch, our story begins with family, a shared dream, and a deep respect for the natural world. As our family grew, so did our vision of one day living on a wide stretch of land, where we could reconnect with nature, raise animals that inspire us, and build something meaningful to pass down for generations. Our father has always held a lifelong passion for bison, who symbolize strength, freedom, and the enduring spirit of the American frontier. In 2019, that dream became reality when we purchased our first hundred + acres in the foothills of Cleveland, South Carolina. What started as a bold idea has since blossomed into a thriving, purpose-driven bison ranch.
2020
Early Development
When we purchased our property in 2019, we knew that we weren’t going to rush into anything. Instead, we committed ourselves to years of education and hands-on experience before bringing bison to our land. Our father, who has always admired the strength and majesty of these animals, had the incredible opportunity to learn under the mentorship of Fred Ilse, the respected owner of Tatanka Bison Ranch. For nearly three years, our father worked closely with Fred, gaining invaluable insight into proper herd management, humane handling practices, and the unique rhythms of bison life.
2021
Brand Establishment
Big Balls Ranch began intentionally sharing its vision and building the brand beyond the property by launching its first line of apparel, including t-shirts, hats, and hoodies.
The ranch connected with the local community by selling merchandise at regional flea markets and rodeos
2022 -2023
Growth and Community
The official Big Balls Ranch website launched, including merchandising and online presence for apparel and sharing our vision. During this period, the ranch continued building knowledge and experience in bison care practices, and establishing itself locally
2024
Bison Herd Arrival, Acclimation & Trust-Building
Big Balls Ranch welcomed its first bison herd of 28 to their new home in Cleveland, South Carolina, marking a major operational milestone after years of preparation. Throughout the year, the ranch focused on acclimating the herd to the land, climate, and routines, while intentionally learning each individual bison’s personality, behaviors, and social dynamics. Through daily hands-on care, patience, and consistency, the team built trust with each animal, establishing the foundation for responsible stewardship, safe handling, and long-term herd health.
2025
Expanding Operations
Big Balls Ranch continued to grow as a recognized agritourism destination in northern Greenville County, offering private 90-minute bison tours that provide an immersive, educational experience on the ranch. During this time, the ranch expanded operations to include premium, 100% grass-fed, USDA-inspected bison meat, along with branded merchandise selling at local farmers markets and meat pickup at the ranch. Big Balls Ranch welcomed a second bison herd, bringing the total to 38 bison on the ranch.
2026
Continuing Operations & Ongoing Tourism
Into 2026, Big Balls Ranch continues operations as a top agritourism destination, offering private Wagon tours, educational experiences about bison, and selling Bison meat and apparel in the scenic Upstate SC area. Now with 38 bison on the ranch, Big Balls Ranch is the largest bison ranch in South Carolina.

Once nearly driven to extinction, bison have made a remarkable comeback thanks to conservation efforts and the dedication of ranchers and stewards across the country. Their presence enriches the land, restoring native grasses, supporting biodiversity, and playing a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. Here in the Upstate of Greenville, South Carolina, bison are a rare sight, and that’s why we are passionate about sharing their story with every visitor who comes to Big Balls Ranch. Whether you’re touring the ranch, meeting the herd, or simply enjoying the view from our mountaintop, we make it a priority to educate and inspire, offering a deeper appreciation for these remarkable animals and the vital role they play in both our history and our future.
