Big Balls Ranch began with family, a shared dream, and a lifelong admiration for the American bison.
In 2019, our family purchased more than 100 acres in Cleveland with a vision of creating a place where we could reconnect with the land, raise animals that inspired us, and build something meaningful to pass down through generations. Before welcoming our first herd, we spent years learning about bison care, humane handling, herd behavior, land management, and the responsibilities that come with raising such powerful animals.
Our first herd of 28 bison arrived in 2024. From the beginning, we focused on helping the animals become comfortable with their new surroundings while learning their individual personalities, relationships, and natural routines. Daily care, patience, and consistency allowed us to begin building trust with the herd without taking away from the instincts that make bison so extraordinary.
As the ranch grew, we welcomed a second herd and expanded our mission to include private educational tours, premium grass-fed bison meat, local farmers-market sales, and ranch merchandise.
Today, Big Balls Ranch is home to 38 bison and is recognized as the largest bison ranch in South Carolina. Although the ranch has grown, our purpose remains rooted in family, education, responsible animal care, and protecting a legacy for future generations.

Behind every healthy herd is a long list of daily responsibilities. Fences must be checked, water must be monitored, pastures must be maintained, equipment must be repaired, and individual animals must be observed for changes in movement, appetite, behavior, or condition.
During the tour, guests receive a behind-the-scenes look at these responsibilities and the equipment used to manage such large and powerful animals. One of the most important pieces of equipment on the ranch is our Hi-Hog bison handling system, which helps us safely complete necessary health and herd-management procedures.
Visitors may also learn about our annual roundup, recordkeeping, vaccinations, animal identification, pasture rotation, and the careful planning required before moving a herd from one area to another.

If weather, wet ground, or another safety concern makes wagon travel unsuitable, Big Balls Ranch reserves the right to conduct the tour using enclosed, air-conditioned UTVs. The ranch may also reschedule a tour because of severe weather, unsafe pasture conditions, animal-related circumstances, operational needs, or other unforeseen events.

Take Home Ranch-Raised Bison Meat
The Big Balls Ranch experience does not have to end when the tour is over.
Guests can explore our selection of premium bison meat raised directly on the ranch. Our bison are pasture-raised, 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, and raised without growth hormones or routine antibiotics.
Our meat is USDA-inspected, dry-aged for up to three weeks, vacuum-sealed, and frozen to preserve quality. Depending on availability, selections may include:
